We want a new Animal Protection Act.

Our proposals regarding animal protection in Bulgaria are as follows:

1. Optimization of the Animal Protection Act (APA);

2. Establishment of state-controlled animal shelters;

3. Mandatory vaccination, registration, and microchipping of pets. Fines ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 BGN for violators.

4. Reduction of the cat population through free neutering. Ban on keeping dangerous breeds.

5. Fines ranging from 4,000 to 7,000 BGN for abandoning or discarding a pet. Strict control over breeding facilities.

6. Creation of an independent Animal Police with clear and precise powers. Establishment of a national Animal Police hotline.

7. Mandatory school lessons on humane treatment of animals in Bulgaria, including an introduction to key points of the APA.

8. Strict control over hunting. Prevention of poaching.

9. State inspections of animal shelter budgets to prevent violations.

10. Establishment of parks for pets.

11. Strict legislative measures against individuals who abuse, kill, or harm animals.
